Does Microsoft want to steal money from everyone? What is the value of the new .docx extension which as far as I know few people have because almost everyone is using the older office formats. I find I am constantly saving everything twice or resending emails because of this new format. Why can't Microsoft keep anything simple.

While most linux/unix and open source people want to use OpenDocument standard for data interchange (i.e. for woord processor, spreadsheet, presentation and database),
Microsoft want to introduce it own standard new XML-based format called DOCX to maintain it hold on the market.
Microsoft is pushing hard for this standard with its money power for its own interest.Therefore new kind of standard is forced down people to maintain its dominance.
